Stop the Stanton Sales Tax

Top Reasons To Repeal The Stanton 1% Sales Tax November 2016.
Vote Yes on Measure QQ and RR

For the first time (and probably the last time) in your lifetime you get the opportunity to repeal a tax. Vote to repeal the Stanton sales tax. Vote YES on Measure QQ and RR.

Ask yourself, "Why doesn't nearby Midway city, Rossmoor, and surrounding unincorporated islands have all the extra taxes for 'safety services' like Stanton does,"? We all use the same Sheriff and Fire service.

Stanton Residents are charged 6 extra taxes for "safety services" already: Stanton Utility Tax on electricity, water, natural gas, cellphone, home phone, and a protective service fee. We have been paying these extra taxes for over 24 years! Where did all this money go? We don't need another extra tax.

Don't get fooled by City Hall again. The Stanton Sales Tax is a general tax that goes into the general fund and is not used specifically for safety. Your money is really being spent to pay for city employee retirements and high $150,000 plus compensation packages for city workers and in one case $230,000 a year! Go to http://publicpay.ca.gov and see for yourself. Stanton Residents may have been fooled into voting in favor of extra taxes but we didn't vote on having them misspend our money.

Nobody wants another extra tax. 2014 had a very low voter turnout. Less than 7% of Stanton residents voted in favor of the sales tax in 2014 but all of us residents have to pay it. Less than 7 percent!

Stanton Residents are charged 6 extra taxes for "safety services" already: Stanton Utility Tax on electricity, water, natural gas, cellphone, home phone, and a protective service fee.

Stanton has been acquiring properties such as a small strip mall, strawberry field, commercial properties, residential properties, etc. when they claim to be poor? This adds up to over 60 properties around the city.

In 2012 we voted down Measure J, the huge Stanton utility tax increase, and in 2013 and 2014 crime came down. We don't need more taxes or the sales tax.

Stanton is run by 5 Council Members. 3 live on the same street and most have been on the council for nearly 20 years or more! They have manipulated the system for over a generation. Look how they mislead the public with this ballot title that Stanton Residents will vote on: "Eliminate Funding for Stanton 9-1-1 Public Safety and Essential Services Protection Measure"!

The Stanton sales tax is a general tax that goes into the general fund and there is no guarantee or requirement that any of this tax goes to safety services.

City Hall cannot be trusted with more of our money. Sorry but there is no real fiscal transparency. City Hall just spent more than $24 million over the past few years on parks but this huge expenditure is mysteriously missing from the Stanton budget. Go to the Stanton website and try to find it in the budget. And the huge pensions for our city and safety service workers are missing too! Go look for yourself. Tens of millions of our dollars unaccounted for.

Besides, City Hall has plenty of money already. Did you know that Stanton has been acquiring properties such as small strip mall, strawberry field, commercial properties, residential properties, etc. when they claim to be poor? This adds up to over 60 properties around the city. I thought we were told for years that the city had no money?

This tax negatively affects working families, the poor, the financially disadvantaged, and seniors on fixed incomes the most. The average Stanton household earns less than $46,000 a year and in many cases has multiple bread winners.

More taxes for "safety services" is the same old tired story that we were told back in the 1980's and 1990's. The same story in 1997, the early 2000's, 2012, and 2014 too. Remember, ask yourself, "Why doesn't nearby Midway city, Rossmoor, and surrounding unincorporated islands have all these extra taxes for 'safety services' like Stanton does"?

Well, finally, for the first time (and probably the last time) in your lifetime you get the opportunity to repeal a tax. Stop letting them rip you off. Stop paying for their misspending. Vote out this tax. Vote YES to repeal. Vote yes on Measure QQ.
